The watercolour illustrations in this gallery are by Soren Hawkes, a British artist living in Ieper (Ypres) in Belgium. Both his great grandfather and great uncle served in World War One and Soren’s studio overlooks the panel on which his great uncle’s name is listed on the Menin Gate. Most of the illustrations shown here are inspired by (and feature in) the book
