Soldiers protest outside landmark tribunal
Gurkha veterans have stepped up their campaign to for equal treatment by staging a demonstration outside a landmark immigration tribunal in London.
A group of former soldiers – all of whom served in the armed forces for at least 15 years – gathered outside the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, which was investigating if the Gorvenment acted lawfully in its decision to refuse 14 Gurkas the right to settle in the UK.
Gurkha soldiers and veterans who have been granted the automatic right to settle in the UK – as long as they retired after 1997. The 2,000 plus Gurkhas who retired before this date must apply for the right to stay in the country.
The tribunal case has now been adjourned until 21 July.
